Every Year
12 million tons of plastic waste escapes into our ocean.
Every Minute
1 million plastic bottles are bought around the world.
Every Day
The average adult consumes between 126 and 142 tiny particles of plastic.
Only One
Ocean for us to protect.
Plastic Oceans Australasia works to change the world's attitude to plastic within a generation.
Our work helps to restore the health of our oceans and protect marine life by urgently eliminating plastic waste and other toxins from waterways.
Plastic Oceans Australasia (POA) is contributing to the agenda for Australia’s UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
POA is an official partner of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC) initiative, joining the global ocean science community to ensure that scientific evidence and research can support actions to sustainably manage oceans and achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
"In our drive for convenience, we have potentially destabilised the fragile balance of Earth's normally functioning ecosystem to such an extent that the ocean, which covers 71% of our planet, will become irreparably damaged if human behaviour towards the ocean does not change."
